Inauguration of the 2nd Cable Car Line in Santo Domingo

This is a mass public transportation system built by the Unidad para la Readecuación de Barrios y Entornos(Urbe) as part of the Fideicomiso para el Desarrollo del Sistema de Transporte Masivo de la República Dominicana (Fitram) (Trust for the Development of the Mass Transportation System of the Dominican Republic). The cable will rotate 163 12-passenger cabins (two more than the first line) and will travel a distance of 4.20 kilometers at a speed of 7 meters per second.

It has four modern stations: "Los Alcarrizos", located on the Duarte Highway, where it will join the Metro line 2-C; "Las Toronjas", in the sector of the same name; "Puente Blanco", near the well-known Los Alcarrizos bridge and the "Los Americanos" station, near the free trade zone and the hospital specialized in ophthalmology, popularly known as Los Americanos.

The monocable system of disengageable clamps will have the capacity to transport 4,500 passengers per hour in each direction in a total of 163 cabins. The 4.20 kilometer trip will take only 15 minutes. Currently, the same distance involves an investment of one hour and more, especially during rush hour.

The cable system is supported by 25 pylons or towers that were placed in strategic locations in the center of the sector in order to benefit as many residents as possible. It also has a garage where the cabins are kept and will be maintained on a daily basis.

The technology used by the system is one of the most modern for this type of transportation system. The work was built with specialized personnel, mostly Dominicans who assimilated experience in the first line that connects the National District with the municipality of Santo Domingo Norte with four stations.
